Project Description

Three new build schools will be located on one site, becoming home to Cantonian High School, Riverbank School and Woodlands High School.

Fairwater Campus in the Fairwater area of Cardiff will co-locate 3 schools relocating from other locations in the city to the Fairwater Campus. A health and wellbeing hub will also be located on the site.

It is Cardiff’s first school campus to be operationally Net Zero Carbon, also targeting significant reduction in embodied carbon during build stage of the project. This means the three schools will be highly energy efficient buildings that are powered from renewable energy sources, enabling Cardiff to deliver on its One Planet Strategy which outlines the city’s ambition to mitigate climate change.

Passivhaus is a rigorous building standard focused on energy efficiency and thermal comfort. It aims to reduce a building’s heating and cooling needs, often to the point where a conventional heating system is not required. This is achieved through a combination of design principles and construction techniques.

Passivhaus requires a high level on thermal insulation to help minimise heat loss and gain for the building services, reducing the energy consumption.
